In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Created this over on tumblr, in response to the extremely bitter cold weather we're experiencing in my part of the US this past week. I was cold and begged for Warm!Bucky headcanons and got so many lovely ones it made me doodle my own. :)

Pencil on paper, sketched out while watching the first two episodes of Luke Cage on Netflix (which I loved... Luke is so... classy). The background is basically taken from the Captain America's fireplace holiday video Marvel put out this Christmas. If I ever get a Wacom or another digital art device thing like it, I might go back and re-create it as something more comic-booky. Who knows. But for now, it stands as an exercise in stretching my skills a little and sharing without waiting for it to be 'perfect'.

Red Winter Hymnal
Sometimes missions don't go as planned, but the law of unintended consequences doesn't mean all outcomes are bad. Written for Night2ingale (msnightraven on tumblr) for the tumblr BuckyNat Secret Santa for their prompt, "Natasha gets injured badly." because I am a sucker for the whole "injuries lead to declarations of love" trope.
Bucky Barnes/Natasha Romanoff
Rated T/PG-13/no smut, just feels and h/c
AU for comics because I didn't use Brubaker's mindwipe plot because I don't like Brubaker's mindwipe plot (although that's the only thing I didn't like about Brubaker's comic run); probably AU for the MCU simply because BuckyNat hasn't happened in the MCU

Fandom Snowflake, Day 1
Jan. 1st, 2017 10:35 amIn your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I've written quite a few fics now for the Captain America fandom. Because they're gen and don't ship stucky as a pairing, I feel like they get a little lost in the crowd at Ao3, especially the one-shots. I like outsider POV stories and the very first Bucky Barnes fic I wrote was one, based on the comic side of Captain America:
That Kid From Brooklyn
According to his dossier, when on a mission on American soil in 1973, the Winter Soldier failed to show up at the extraction point and instead, confused and leaving great unease in his wake, worked his way across America until he boarded a bus in Chicago that took him to New York. A gap-filler, outsider-POV ficlet for the Winter Soldier, because I couldn’t stand the thought of no one showing Bucky any kindness in all that time.
I also wrote an outsider-POV fic as a companion piece to my ongoing story, You Will Call Me Friend, that I think works pretty well as a stand-alone piece,. It paints a picture of the neighborhood Bucky was hiding in while he was in Romania. MCU Civil War based:
Shadow Boy
Surely Bucky made at least one or two friends when he was in Bucharest. I wondered what those friends might be thinking about the day after they came for Bucky. Companion one-shot to "You Will Call Me Friend", specifically Chapter 10, which will be helpful to read first.
The third one is a bit of art. I am no fan artist, or any other kind of artist other than self-taught shamateur doodler, but I do enjoy sketching. This is one that I posted at tumblr, a pencil drawing and nothing fancy compared with most of the fan art in that fandom. It didn't get scads of notes, but I really liked how it came out:

In my mind, this is the moment that Bucky knows he needs to go into cryo. It will happen at some point in my post-CACW gapfiller You Will Call Me Friend, but I don't know the when or how or why of this moment. I just have this picture in my head of his frustration and despair when nothing they've tried is working to rid his mind of HYDRA's influence. *cries* That's usually how I find inspiration to write stories: I'll have a visual in my head, like this one, that I'll translate into words. It's rare that I'm ever able to capture the vision as art, though. This is probably the first time, actually. So another reason this one is special to me.

Because of course....
Aug. 22nd, 2016 08:06 amI ordered the Itty Bitty Cap and the Itty Bitty Bucky from Hallmark at the same time last week, as soon as Itty Bitty Bucky became available.
Got the “your order has shipped” notice and of course they shipped separately and of course Cap shipped first. So now when Itty Cap gets here and sees Itty Bucky is missing, it’ll be hell trying to keep him from racing down the driveway to try to find Itty Bucky.

Mr. Fix It
On the run for nearly a year after leaving Steve Rogers on the banks of the Potomac, Bucky's found a quiet hiding place in a city far from there, where he can work on becoming an actual human being again. Update: Now that I've seen CA:CW, this is mostly AU, but will be tied in to movie canon where possible. Complete.

SSP: Mr. Fix It updates...
May. 3rd, 2016 08:34 amCaptain America: Civil War will (FINALLY) open in the US this weekend, and I'm very curious how it may affect the direction of my story. Some of my Bucky Barnes gapfilling seem to be uncannily matching up with things that I later hear Sebastian Stan say about about Bucky's state of mind and what he's been up to since CA:TWS, but other things look to be completely AU.
Speaking of what he says about the character, Sebastian has a lovely habit of leaving nuggets of meta gold on fans' IG posts....( Character meta straight from Sebastion Stan... )
Hey, this time it's *not* a rant!
Apr. 27th, 2016 07:53 amI posted another chapter on Mr. Fix It, if any of you here are reading that one (usual places, Ao3 & ff.net) and got a review yesterday that, despite its brevity, makes me smile:
"Holy poo you're an amazing writer."
That was it. That was the review. XD Much as I love the detailed ones, sometimes the short ones are just as gratifying. I think I'll whisper this one to myself in times of doubt.
Now for some writerly blather about Captain America fic and my own methods and how writing these characters is screwing up my method pretty thoroughly. Read on only if you're interested in reading how another writer agonizes over All The Things...

For the rest of you who skipped all that navel-gazing, here's one of the cutest pics of Sebastian Stan to come out of the big CA:CW press tour....

Such a cute little ray of sunshine, that man.

Captain America: Civil War tidbit...
Jan. 30th, 2016 09:15 amCaptain America: Civil War Reportedly Scoring Well With Test Audiences
Good to know my impending death will be caused by a quality film. :/
Knowing how the comic book Civil War run plays out, and also knowing how the MCU only takes cues from the comics and doesn't necessarily follow the plotline frame by frame, I am by turns excited about this movie and absolutely dreading it. I have no idea where the characters will be by its end, whether dead*, alive, at eternal enmity??? Supposedly, the Russo's have said it contains more humor than CA:TWS, but if the 'third act pulls no punches' bit is true, I'm guessing the humor is mostly front loaded and the end of the movie will wreck everyone completely, regardless of whether they're Team Cap or Team Tony. :/
I'm just hoping I don't ugly cry in a public theater.
Also... VERY spoilery venting VERY COMICS SPOILERY VERY VERY VERY I CANNOT EXPRESS ENOUGH SPOILERY about the comics and my feelings because I need to just vent and tumblr isn't a place where I can vent and feel like anyone actually reads it, still less talk

Quietude
Missions can be hard on the body and mind, but a quiet Christmas Eve together helps.
Rating: K+ (PG, basically)
Romance, h/c, humor, bittersweetness... my usual mash of stuff with romance for a change. Who knew.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes and Natasha Romanov

When the bunny bites, you gotta write...
Aug. 20th, 2015 02:29 pmThis is what happens when a) Michael Sullivan hasn't sent out the second half of his book and you're finished with the first half; b) you've been staring at someone else's writing so much you have an uncontrollable itch to put words of your own together; c) you stare too long at a comic book panel of Bucky in stasis; d) you wonder what Bucky would think if he saw himself like this; and e) you spent way too much time on Pixlr trying to make a comic book panel look like a old photo.
( Steve & Bucky ficlet... little bit o'angst but not too much... )
