First I decided to do the fandom equivalent of Serious Art Students who gather around Monet's Water Lilies or the Mona Lisa and paint their own studies. Okay, so it's not the Mona Lisa, but a study of a fan art done in the style of Skottie Young:

Then I decided to try my own sketch from a real object. Since I don't have Chris Evans' number to text him, I settled on my Mopeez Cap. drawing it in the same style:


Definitely getting more used to my Wacom tablet and ArtRage. :)

In the US, Labor Day is ostensibly a holiday to celebrate the working person, but for most people it's more a celebration of the end of the summer season. I always feel very bittersweet about Labor Day. I love summer and its carefree vibe and always feel sadness when it ends, even though I do love fall's cooler weather, colorful trees and harvest festivals... not to mention Halloween and Thanksgiving. I think a large part of my melancholy arises from echoes of childhood, when I loved the freedom of summer and hated the structure (and mean kids) of school. As an adult, I deal with Labor Day much better than I used to, thank goodness.

If you have an extra 10 minutes today to relax and laugh (and maybe get a little teary eyed), you'll find your day is a little brighter for having watched these sweet little ladies on their first-ever airplane ride:

*hugs*, Linda... that silly story really did make my day.  I'm still giggling. *g*

For those of you who may not have seen it, TORn is running a favorite Tolkien character competition.  The initial list to put together the brackets is rather odd (Ungoliant, for example, is on there, but Beorn isn't, which I find inexcusable, Edit: Beorn's on the list now, and Aragorn is on there twice, as Aragorn and Aragorn as Strider, which is also odd as he's the same man!)  But for what it's worth, it's fun to vote and watch the results.
