Welp. So much for Photobucket.

Photobucket no longer allows 3rd party hosting without having a paid account at the $400 a year level. :/
Um. No. I don't have that kind of cash to lay out for fandom stuff that doesn't involve getting a hug from Sebastian Stan, and I don't really have money for that, either.
So, sadly, all the Aragorn-a-day posts made from photobucket are now just ugly placeholders advertising Photobucket, as are a few miscellaneous other photo posts and my DW journal header (which I was going to change anyway).
I haven't lost the photos... they're still stored on PB plus I have them backed up on a thumb drive. I guess I'll slowly go through my Aragorn-a-days and... delete? I hate losing all the comments, though none of them make sense without the corresponding photo. Thoughts?
Just another reminder that Things Change on the Internet, and often not for the better. :(

Date: 2017-07-14 08:26 pm (UTC)I love how there appeared to be no warning for it, especially for those who don't have photos backed up anywhere else!

Date: 2017-07-14 08:45 pm (UTC)I'd not get rid of them sweetie. We may not have the photos but honestly which of us cannot recall, just from words, what photo it was.
Up to you of course. I seriously thought of uploading what I had done to flickr or somewhat and re-connecting, but honestly to damned much work!
I thought you had read comments about this but I guess not. Sorry. Can you at least download the folders? Be warned though, the bigger the file the more likely to bomb out. I had to split my blogged photos into 3 sets. Pain in the butt!

Date: 2017-07-14 08:55 pm (UTC)I saw your post about looking for a new photo hosting service but I didn't make the connection that it was because PB was discontinuing 3rd party hosting... I thought you were just fed up with PB's continuing lack of functionality.
I have all the Aragorn photos on a thumb drive... I might go through and download some of the other photos and put them in dropbox. I might also look into the paid version of dropbox, if nothing else just to give that site my money as a "stick a thumb in your eye" to photobucket!

Date: 2017-07-15 01:22 am (UTC)I'm not going to delete my photobucket account yet, because I have a feeling that, unless they're truly idiotic, the massive ire from all corners of the Internet (including Amazon and Ebay, where many images of items for sale are now broken) may make them roll back this idiotic decision. I really can see where a class-action lawsuit might not be out of the question with this... especially given that it's affecting people selling actual merchandise. It's affecting people's livelihoods and that's never a good thing.

Date: 2017-07-15 01:36 pm (UTC)Now to decide on a new 3rd party hosting site. I'm leaning toward imgur, but I might look into flickr as well. I wish DW had photo storage. Then I'd just upload things there and be done with it.

Date: 2017-07-15 01:42 pm (UTC)And then there are those companies that just spring awful updates upon you, figuratively pulling the rug out from under you.
*headdesk*
But I would definitely concur with everyone encouraging you not to delete any posts because of it. ;)

Date: 2017-07-15 07:05 pm (UTC)I really would have considered paying $5 or $10 a month, *if* they'd included 3rd party hosting and *if* they'd given everyone advanced notice, and *if* they'd not required the entire year's payment up front. But given how squirrely their website is and how hard it is to navigate, and how atrocious the pop-up ads are... nope. I was only there for the linkage and no reason to stay now, other than I'll likely keep my photos on there just as a backup.
So I'm spending all the odd moments of my weekend downloading all my photos to upload elsewhere. And then I'll have the same thing to do again with dropbox, most likely. Oh well, too hot to do anything outside anyway.
