Anson Mount, you know that dude on the horse from yesterday's post and who I fancast as Halbarad, is a very cool dude in real life and one of the more interesting folks I follow on twitter/FB. He teaches acting at Columbia University, and he also finds stuff like this to share on his FB page:

Be encouraged.

Yep, I did mention that, a while back. And he lives in Brooklyn. :)

He's very interesting, a little like Viggo in terms of intelligence, curiousity about the world, and being his own man. Fascinating fellow, not to mention easy on the eyes. LOL

Glad you liked it! I need to remember those concepts myself.

Such a good message! It's ridiculously easy to forget. I think this graphic is an awesome accompaniment to it, too, because even once you start improving it tends to become a cycle: http://dragon-at-the-edge-of-the-map.tumblr.com/post/62729253567/askfordoodles-the-love-hate-relationship-you. (The more obvious application on this is to visual art, of course, but I think it does apply to writing as well.)

Ooh, very nice graphic of the same sort of concept. (I follow you on tumblr now... if you wondered if that was the same cairistiona. LOL NOt that I actually do much on tumblr--weeks will go by before I think, "Oh, I guess I ought to take a look at tumblr..." *cringes*)

I think the whole idea of recognizing that perfection only comes as time spent working goes by is so difficult, no matter what the endeavor. We really need to learn to be easier on ourselves (especially those of us who are perfectionists!)

(I figured it was you! Didn't think there were too many Cairistionas around tumblr, and it sure looked like your interests. *bg* I hadn't realized you had a tumblr at all, or I'd have followed you earlier!)

Definitely! Growing discouraged when I don't show excellence right away when practicing a new skill has really been a fault of mine. (And sometimes it seems like the more I do see myself getting good in certain areas, the harder it is for me to go and work on the areas where I know I'll be back to doing badly for a while - even though I know time and practice will fix that!) Something I'm working on, which I'm sure will be an ongoing process for years to come...

I'm *barely* on tumblr. I made an account just to sort of explore the site and how it works. I still don't really feel like I know what to do over there! Mostly I just look at teh pretteh pictures.

Heh, I know the feeling. I was so confused and nervous when I started trying to do stuff on there... It takes a fair amount of fiddling to start to feel like you know what you're doing. XD

Such an important point, and so easy to forget.

Yes. I have to keep reminding my daughter, who takes perfectionist tendency to ridiculous levels, that talent+work+time=good. But I have enough perfectionist tendencies myself that it's an important lesson for me to remember, too.

Oh, that is awesome! *applauds* It took me three takes to understand it well, sine it's spoken so fast and the words slip by so quickly. *g*
