Thanks, mellon-nin! Church was canceled today because of the cold - unheard of in Minnesota! But it's very cozy to stay at home, and this evening I'm going to get to try hot buttered rum (which sounds delightful, at least in theory :D).
I heard they pretty much closed everything in Minnesota this time around! I was kind of surprised, actually, since y'all pride yourselves on your winter fortitude. :D
We southerners, however, pride ourselves on whining about the cold (it's 31F?? WHAT?? WHERE'S MY DOWN COAT???? CANCEL EVERYTHING!!!!), clearing store shelves of all bread (do these people make igloos from it, I wonder?? I went to the store yesterday, but I bought MEAT, not bread... pork steaks are way better than toast, after all), and staying home for a week if it snows even an inch. (Which... it's doing considerably more of right now, so it may be longer than a week before anyone crawls out.)
In all seriousness, though, it *is* a nasty one, this storm. Not a very nice birthday present for you!
LOL. Yeah...I don't even know what's up with this wimping out on things, just because the windchill could get as low as 60 degrees below zero, and frostbite can occur in 5-10 minutes of exposure on bare skin. (My brother seriously does think that church being canceled was ridiculously over-cautious. XD)
The buying-all-the-bread thing is kind of a funny phenomenon...although I can't really recall seeing much of that happening here. Mostly, everyone interviewed on the news is just like, "YAY. I'm a teacher, and school is canceled, so I get to sit at home and watch Netflix on Monday."
And--at least some of us--are still eating ICE CREAM. Which makes me kind of proud, even if I'm totally with you about steak being a yummeh thing for a cold winter day. ;D
Hehe, with temperatures at -20 and dropping, windchills supposed to be at -40 to -50... staying warm's a bit of a trick these days. *g* A good day to be staying home with a warm fire going, baking fun birthday treats and reading and watching movies!
