Falcon Heavy made history!
Feb. 7th, 2018 08:15 amDid any of you watch, either live or via the news, Space X's Falcon Heavy launch yesterday? It's been interesting across platforms... I heard crickets amongst my FB friends but Twitter was ablaze.
As for me, I was glued to the computer, watching Space X's live feed on YouTube, holding my breath and then marveling at how smoothly it all went (save for the loss of the center core section, which missed its landing and plunked into the ocean--I hope they can salvage it, though I haven't heard any news on that yet). Also, the Tesla that was supposed to go into an Earth/Mars orbit missed the turn and is now headed toward the Asteroid Belt (that's what happens when you depend too closely on Google maps....) But overall, the launch was a huge success and proved that economical (relatively) launches are possible.
The view of Starman and the Tesla from my desktop:

I am not ashamed to say that the entire thing had me yelling and fist pumping and shedding a few tears. Such an important step forward to exploring space.
Interesting trivia: Space X's Falcon rockets are named after the Millennium Falcon. :)
