Buzz about the facial hair?

Some good buzz on Appaloosa out there.  This in particular from  EW blogger Marc Bernardin via Viggo-works  made me laugh:

'Two old friends hired to bring law to the lawless, one of whom has ridiculously awesome facial hair? Sign me the hell up. What about you?'

Me, I haven't quite decided if I like the Kentucky colonel look, but it suits the time period.   And looks way better on Viggo than it did on Harlan Sanders.

OMG Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen? Sign me the hell up, too.

Um, the facial hair - eww. Makes him look like Rasputin or something.

Rasputin, too funny. Fortunately, it's much shorter and neater than his. LOL But yeah, not a look I think Viggo should keep by any means.

I kinda like that he is not obsessed with his (good) looks, but goes for the authentic look.

Back then, the 'facial hair' may even have been considered very appealing ... fashion is a strange creature :-)

Totally agree--it's amazing the way Viggo disappears into a role, and the only way he can really do that is to have a pretty much total disregard for his own looks. He really has a rare ability to utterly disappear into a role.
