As I suspected, it is another denial-of-service attack:

"We can now publicly disclose that we have been experiencing a large-scale DDoS attack the last two days, which has been the reason for the site issues most users have been experiencing. The traffic load has been immense, at many times our normal load level, and the attack is still on-going. We are in constant contact with our providers to mitigate the attack as best as possible. We again apologize for the disruption to LiveJournal usage, and are working to get everything back to normal as soon as we can. Thank you!

Status Updated: 2:29 pm GMT (Wednesday, July 27)"

I reeeeally wish they'd never sold LJ to a Russian company. *sigh*

I know it! It's maddening... and frustrating that apparently other blogging sites get those sorts of attacks all the time without being brought completely down. I wonder why LJ can't create better mitigation protocols, but then again... I'm no expert so I probably shouldn't grumble. I just wish them good luck getting things back online.

No, it's definitely not their fault any more than it's the fault of any other crime victim.

Whether it's DDOS or hacker driven, off with the heads of those responsible, I say!

I don't really understand the ins and outs of DDOS attacks, either, but I do know that they're done by nefarious groups that should be nailed to a cliff in Thangorodrim!

Actually, I write this comment as a reply to some of your LJ entries, that I finally managed to open this morning, but opening was all I could - I couldn't comment them. *thud*

I am so looking forward to your next stories. *jumpy* And yes, I totally understand you - I sometimes felt like my characters had a mind and will of their own, too. And there's nothing I can do about it! *lol*

And there's one more thing that I'm trying to say for the past 3 days but I can't. *mrmlj* As for Flight Plan - no, I won't tell you if Sean survives or not. :D Watch the movie. :D It's quite good. Main female role is Jodie Foster.

Yeah, I've had trouble with commenting even if I did manage to open my LJ account. Bleh. Hate DDOS attacks! But this one will probably be repelled eventually and in the meantime it's helping me to explore DW a little more fully. I am getting more comfortable here but I miss my layout over at LJ.

One of these days I'll give "Flight Plan" a try. It's one of those movies that when I see something about it, I think, "Oh, I need to watch that" but then I forget all about it again.
