The same applies on me - in real life. I never wear anything else but jeans (ok, you'll see me in a skirt about 3 days in a year, and that is in summer, on those hottest 3 days when it's impossible to wear anything else). I have only one dress among all my clothes, that I wore about 3 times in some 12-14 years that I own it. I don't have any high-heel-shoes, nor will I ever buy them. Many of my female friends consider me very odd and silly when it comes to clothing.
But when it comes to LotR - that's another story. It is a fairytale I adore, and the clothes in it are something different than real life. They are so... Middle-earth-ish, if I can put it that way. When I wear one of those two LotR dresses I own, I feel so great - not because I wear a dress, not because someone might say they are feminine (they are, but I don't care about it), but because they are from LotR, and they make me feel like I am in Middle-earth, at least a little bit.
So, that is why I drool over LotR-movies dresses. I hope the explanation is not too confusing. :p
I love Aragorn's "what the heck are you doing" look.
And yes, Eowyn did have some lovely dresses. Miranda Ott actually talked about one of the dresses she wore and how beautiful and intricate the bottom of the dress was. She couldn't wait to see it in the film only to have Peter Jackson show only the top part of the dress! Men!
LOL... actually, I don't think it necessarily that PJ is a man, but that the demands of the film and the constraints of time made it more important to see her face than her hemline.
Of course, that's me and my non-fashion-sensibility speaking, so take it for what it's worth. :)
Agreed.... Though, I never really looked at her dresses until I saw the interview. And after that, I started noticing how beautiful the LOTR dresses really were..or are. And I'm with you, I love my jeans..when they fit. Otherwise, sweats are the BEST!
I would love to be independently wealthy and have "people" who would make my jeans so they fit perfectly and so I would NEVER have to shop for them! LOL
One of the things I love about LOTR is the attention to detail that didn't even end up onscreen. Even though we never saw the fancy stitchwork, it was there and it probably helped the actors to really feel transported into M-e.
I absolutely love that scene, and the look in his eyes.
I wear a lot of dresses. They're very practical for our kind of weather. You don't want to be in jeans when temperatures are in the high 30ºs. LOL, I loved the LOTR costumes both the dresses and the men's outfits too because they were part of the background which made Middle-earth come alive. One of the reasons I liked the costumes was because though lovely they fit and did not hog our attention and distracted us from the scene.
The 30C's, that is! When it's that warm here, I wear shorts, so still not a dress kinda gal.
And that's true... LOTR wasn't a "costume piece" by any means. The costumes supported the story and leant realism, but they didn't overshadow the people wearing them. :)
I enjoyed reading the comments to this one! I have to say that it gets MISERABLY hot here in the summer... but I don't like dresses much. I HATE jeans, though. I'm a very strange person, I guess, but I find jeans to be hot and heavy and uncomfortable.
I live in capri pants in the summer and velour warm-ups in the winter. I don't much like the look of my legs in shorts!
Gosh, I recall seeing the LOTR exhibit and being so bowled over by the costumes.
