Programming note:  It's gonna be a long spring....  it seems that every thunderstorm that comes through is striking the signal antennae that broadcasts wireless Internet for our area.  This time it got struck by lightning on Friday evening, and it was Sunday afternoon late before they restored our internet.  *sigh*  It'd be nice if we could just cancel our wireless Internet and go with DSL, but despite living within 10 miles of a metro area of well over half a million people, DSL cable or fiber optic lines have yet to reach our quiet little hill in the country.  And seeing as getting Internet through our cell phone provider isn't affordable (and is slow), and satellite Internet and dial-up are also slow, I'll just have to grit my teeth when storms roll through, I guess, and use my Internet-less time to do other things, like reading or cleaning out closets or washing socks or something.

So... there may be times when Aragorn goes missing for a few days.  Don't worry about him; he's just waitng out the storm in some cave somewhere, probably reading a good book or, yeah, washing his socks.

To make up for yesterday, here's two for today. :)

I *love* these pics!

It must be incredibly frustrating to be on the verge of losing internet access so often. Maybe there will be plot bunnies about cleaning out closets in Rivendell, or Aragorn not used to having anyone wash his socks for him in the Citadel.

They're good shots, aren't they. :)

And yeah, it is pretty frustrating, but I guess life's a trade-off in that we do have peace and quiet and little to no crime out here in the boonies, even if we don't have DSL and some of the other conveniences of urban life. And those are very interesting plot bunnies!

Oof, I can see how that would get frustrating. Silly weather!! But Aragorn probably doesn't mind...I can imagine he'd appreciate having time to wash socks! ;)

LOL... yes, good to know Aragorn now has clean socks. *g*

And it is frustrating... although I did get about 200 pages read in a very good book. :)

Well, if Aragorn goes missing, at least I'm pretty sure he's able to take care of himself. Maybe. Possibly. Or maybe not...

Intermittent Internet and power problems are so frustrating. UGH! I feel your pain.

Gah, I love those two Aragorn pics there.

He *probably* can. Unless he comes down with a fever. Or falls off a cliff and breaks something. Or is set upon by nasty Southron bandits. Or...

Our internet connection used to be like that, but it has been much better these past couple of years. Here's hoping yours follows us.

In the second picture Aragorn looks as if someone has just suggested he might wash their socks for them whilst he's at it!

I really do hope they invest in some lightning protection systems... it's not like lightning rods are some sort of newfangled, untested technology!

And yes, Aragorn does look a bit disbelieving there, doesn't he! LOL

Having no internet is never any fun at all! :( I hope you won't have too many thunderstorms this year! *fingerscrossed*

Aw, two more of my favourite pics! He just looks especially gorgeous in front of a dark background. *happy sigh*

Yeah, it was kinda suckish all weekend, being out of touch with the rest of the world. It's amazing how dependent we've become on the Internet--just as an example: we had to scramble a bit to figure out how to find out movie times when we wanted to see a movie on Saturday. We stared blankly at one another for a minute and I finally said, "Gosh, how did we used to do it back before we had the Internet???" The answer of course was the newspaper... but, eh, we don't subscribe to it anymore because we get the news via the paper's website now. *headdesk* So we called on the phone.

And yes, Aragorn looks good in the dark! LOL

I know that problem - we don't have a newspaper anymore, too! ;-) Also, all our banking transactions are done via the internet, so that's a real problem if we don't have internet for a while, too. :P

And a very nice way to made uo for missing out is that! Hope that connection holds up in future.

I hope it does, too. But in case it doesn't... we do have another similar Internet provider coming out next week to see if we can pick up the signal from their towers. I have my doubts, though, as their tower is to the south and east, and we're on the north and west side of a great big hill. Those signals need line-of-sight to reach their receivers. But if that signal can make it, and they do a better job of lightning protection, it'd be a good thing all the way around. *crossing fingers*

And, er, it also gives me more incentive to get my desk cleaned off and organized and dusted!

I'm sorry you were so long without your connection, and so is Aragorn I see. I love the sorrowful expression on his face especially on the second picture, which has of course been snitched.

The good side of it is the additional reading time.

I do hope that this is the last time you lose your connection because of storms

I hope it's the last, too!

Enjoy your snitched pic. *g*

You have the whole town covered with wireless internet? That's amazing! Over here we have certain wifi spots only, not the whole town.

I think in the actual town, they have cable DSL... I know my friend at church does. But yes, one of the solutions businesses have come up with to get Internet to rural customers is to broadcast a strong WiFi signal from cell phone towers. There are two such companies within range of our house, but one is on the other side of our hill and I doubt we can get their signal. And they're more expensive. But we're having them come out next week to see if it might work.... and if they can promise continued service even after storms. We're very weary of the lightning-driven blackouts!

The only other option for us is satellite Internet but they have such strict daily download limits I'm afraid that halfway through reading the news and posting the Aragorn pic, I'd hit the limit and they'd shut me off for the rest of the day!
