Oooooh...another beautiful heartstring-pulling scene...you are out of control this week! Every Aragorn-a-day has left me either melted or reduced to gibbering, or in this case both.
*cough-cough* There are some who are immune. *raises hand* *lol*
P.S. Is this a movie scene, or just a picture from the set, that was deleted in editing? *unsure* I ask because - no matter how many times I've seen the movie - and believe me, I've seen it many times - I don't remember Elrond's hand. *shocked* Of course, I remember Aragorn and the statue, and I could recite all their lines now, but I don't remember the hand. *huh* And when I tell Alen that I *don't* know the movies by heart, and that every time I discover something new, he doesn't believe me. *drama*
I think this must be a still from the scene, because I don't recall seeing Elrond's hand in the movies, either, although, admittedly, it's been a long time since I watched the EE version that includes this scene. Like you, I don't know the movies by heart, either. :)
You know, it makes me rather sad that Gilraen has been written out of so many stories... very few feature an adult Aragorn relating to his mother at all. She's almost like a non-character, and yet we know he had to have thought about her quite a lot.
I know... and I'm as guilty of that as anyone. I just forget about her, you know? She goes back to her people but lived alone in Eriador somewhere, I'm assuming near her parents, and that's about all that's said of her except for Aragorn's last visit with her shortly before she dies in the winter of 3007. I really need to work her into this next Denlad story, because I need to start including the story arc as I write about this era in Aragorn's life.
*makes note to self to figure out why I haven't mentioned her in these tales before now*
Well, I remember you mentioned her in the Epilogue of At Hope's Edge... which I really liked.
But I think it would be awesome---and very fresh and new---to see her in a story taking place in Aragorn's later life. I believe all the stories I've ever seen her in are from his childhood and early life... or else he's just making a cameo appearance in a story focusing on her.
I've never seen a story with any h/c with Gilraen caring for or worried about Aragorn after she leaves Rivendell... now that would be very interesting too.
I've never seen a Gilraen h/c, either, come to think of it.
I imagine she'll play a part in my current WIP with young Denlad. She'd be living with the Dunedain at that time (I think... have to doublecheck) so I'm sure Denlad will be curious about her, and I'm sure Aragorn saw her quite a bit, even if she did live alone (for some reason, I interpret that as her being somewhat near the little settlement I've created for my Rangers, but set apart... I'm still mulling over how she might have interacted with her people after so many long years in Rivendell. I'm sure she loved them, but Tolkien saying she "lived alone" makes me wonder what dynamics might have been going on by then. It's intriguing!
I need to rewatch it too... but I'm forcing myself to wait until after I see the symphony/film combo in April. But it's sooooo hard not to watch the films. I have a huge craving. *sigh*
