The entire scene starting with Frodo and Aragorn and ending in Boromir's death scene is my favourite part of FOTR, and maybe of the entire trilogy.
It's incredible how one can read in Aragorn's expressive face and so expressive eyes, such a gamut of emotion, without having to deal with much dreaded histrionics which would have absolutely ruined the scene for me.
Exactly... he didn't overplay it, and it ended up being all the more powerful because of that.
I remember seeing a quote about Viggo, from a director, who said at first he was watching Viggo act out a scene and thought, "What the hell is he doing? He's just standing there!!" and then he saw it on film and realized that there was an incredible amount of emotion going on in his face and eyes that couldn't be seen from far away. Definitely a masterful actor, made for those close-ups. :)
Okay, that's weird, but did you ever notice that the play of light and shadows in this screenshot makes it look as if there's a Christmas tree at the left side of this pic? LOL.
