LOL! And of course we know that kiss went on and on... until the good citizens of Minas Tirith were shuffling their feet wondering who on earth this woman was and whether it was time to bow to the hobbits yet. :)
I looooove that part of the end of ROTK. The only thing I don't like is when Aragorn bows to the Hobbits, not because I don't like that moment but because I know that's the last we see of Aragorn!
THe mistletoe is evvvverywhere!!! But I'm sure neither of them mind. Elrond might, though. And...oh dear, now I'm imagining various combinations of Rivendell elves unhappily trapped under the mistletoe. My mind, why does it go to these place??? *g*
Actually, I think Aragorn staked out all the places where there was mistletoe and chased the Elves away (well, except Arwen of course) at swordpoint. *g*
At least the good people got to see one couple of high nobility kissing in front of *everyone*. That's entertainment and cause for wagging tongues. But I don't think they minded at that moment. ;)
It's a Christmas tradition that if you meet under the mistletoe plant, you have to kiss. :) That's the very very simplified version of the history of the tradition. You can read more about it here.
There's a LOT of mistletoe in Middle-earth. You've no idea. I bet Aragorn has ordered a heap of them and made sure they're to be found in every corner of Minas Tirith by now! :D
Now that's an interesting theory! Maybe he sent them special delivery to Arwen, with a note: "Hang these all over Rivendell for me. I'll explain why when I get there!"
