I'm trying to remember if this is when he overhears them wondering where they're going, or if it's when he overhears them discussing the fact that he looks foul and feels fair (the ultimate left-handed compliment! LOL). Either way, all those moments at the beginning of their journey together are priceless. :)
Don't the hobbits have the "looks foul feels fair" discussion--thinking he doesn't hear them--and then immediately afterwards wonder aloud at where they're going, and then go wide-eyed when Aragorn responds? Something like that. Such a great moment (I think FOTR is my favorite of the three books, if you its possible to have one). :)
