Just thinking about the wonderful harmonies of the Mamas and the Papas this morning. I wish pop music hadn't abandoned talented singing and harmony for auto-tune. /curmudgeon comment of the day

It's cold, but well, it's also January, so to be expected. Still don't like it, but you do what you gotta do. I'm very impressed, however, with the whole-house humidifier. It's keeping the humidity at a stead 32-33%, which is just fine for comfort. I haven't broken out in itchy spots because of the dry air even once since hubby installed it. 

We had to grocery shop yesterday in the 12F temps. That's such a pain, because you bundle up for the walk in from the car to the store, but then you start sweating by the time you're done in the store. They need to have coat check rooms at the front of stores.

Dink is always busy on Sundays, as she's found a church she likes, and they have a small group Bible study later in the day, but she's off today--Happy Martin Luther King Day (amazed Dump hasn't cancelled it), so she came out to raid our fridge and pantry yesterday evening. I don't cook on Sundays, so I just told her to have at it. We were, thanks to grocery shopping, at least well stocked.

She'll probably come over today for lunch or supper or both. She mooches food whenever she can. XD

Today is another cold one, with temps staying in the 20Fs all day. We *might* have a chance of snow at the end of the week, but I'm not getting excited just yet. We're in a severe drought right now, and when we're in the midst of them, it feels like it won't every rain or snow ever again.

That's occurred to me, too.

I spent parts of today shoveling, scraping ice, and excavating my car. It's winter for sure!

I think listening to the Mamas and Papas and all those harmonic groups should be required in school! XD

The coat situation in the winter really does get so frustrating! I don't like to wear it while I'm driving because I can't safely take it off if (when) I start to overheat once things warm up, and it doesn't feel worth it to put on just to get from car to store and back again, but if I don't it's Much Too Cold, but then you have to juggle it while in the store... The many woes of winter. XD

I'll be running my errands, too, tomorrow before we get a bigger temperature drop. The high is supposed to get up to 13F... but considering the highs later in the week are supposed to be in the negatives, I'll take what I can get while I can, lol.

You summed it up perfectly! I hate wearing a coat in the car, but yeah, when it's 10 or lower, even that short dash to the store is too long (and our Sam's Club parking lot is very much the coldest and windiest parking lot in the city, plus hubby likes to park nearer to the exit so loooooong hike to the entrance). So you wear it into Sam's, and then swelter while wearing it, or take it off and balance all your groceries atop it, or sling it over your arm so it's just that arm that gets sweaty... yeah, winter just sucks. XDDDD

Oh gosh, negative temps in the forecast definitely call for shopping when it's still "warm" at 13.

I miss the pre terrorism days, when places were happy to provide cloak rooms. As a child, I remember going to the cinema with my mum on Saturday afternoon. We would do the shopping, then check in the bags and coats at the cinema, before going in to watch the movie.

Coat check/cloak rooms started going out of style here in the US way back in the 1960s. I don't ever remember going to a place with one, though we were poor and probably didn't go to places that might have (I didn't see a movie in an indoors theater until 1977 when I saw Star Wars; we always went to the drive-in theater instead because it was cheaper for a family of four). I guess you could technically call that pre-terrorism, but it was really more like "pre-Vietnam" for us. I do remember shopping malls used to provide lockers for coats, but those went out in the 1990s.
