It was a tech upgrade kind of evening last night.

Hubby had signed up to be included in the beta test for Starlink Internet almost as soon as it was announced, and last night, out of the blue, he got an email annoucing they were opening the beta at our latitude and he could sign up for it ("sign up" being purchase the equipment for it). It was something he's been anticipating and had the money set aside for, on the off chance that we'd be chosen to participate (not everone who signs up gets to), so he jumped right on it and, now, in 2-4 weeks when the equipment arrives, we'll may finally have really, really fast internet. There's a chance trees might be in the way, which will mean clearing out some, but hopefully not (and if so, hopefully not any of my favorites *bites nails*). It's crazy to think that Internet speeds will be faster when beamed down from 550 km up vs from just 3 miles away from a tower. If this works, we'll be going from 9 MBS, on average, to 50-150 MBS. We may well go into shock.

The other tech upgrade: Dink's phone is dying, so she ordered a new iPhone (new but not the latest model) last night, and it should be here Wednesday... *if* it's not still so icy that UPS and/or FedEx won't attempt our driveway. It started drizzling and freezing yesterday afternoon and now the only safe way to walk around is with yaktrax on my shoes.

Boomer is not impressed with the weather and I don't blame him.

Boomer never needs words to communicate EXACTLY how he's feeling and what he's thinking.

Oh wow, I hope the internet works out really well! That would be awesome and even somewhat life changing.

Considering hubby is thinking about doing consultant work after he retires in about 4 years, having good Internet is really vital to those plans. We've got all fingers and toes crossed this works!

Boom really is a master communicator. *g*

Hooray for fast internet!!! I hope it works smoothly for you. It's SUCH a nice change to get good speeds after Struggling for so long. :D

That darling little puppy face. <3 He certainly does know how to live the good life.

Boom certainly knows how to find the comfy spots. *g*

I told hubby last night that our current "high speed" internet might as well connect each time with the modem noises. *eye roll* We're really hoping that a) the equipment arrives sooner rather than later, and b) the connection works once the equipment is set up. *crossing fingers so hard my knuckles are turning white*

I use a mobile WiFi hotspot, rather than a landline. There's been no problem since I upgraded my data limit.

Our mobile hotspots aren't much faster. Rural Internet in the US is still in the dark ages.

I've found yaktraks to be slippery on ice. A friend recommended a different brand for ice, but I'm forgetting what they were called just now. Yak Tracks are wonderful on packed snow, though. Just not on our glare ice.

I'll be totally envious of your internet speed. Testing our speed must now, I'm getting around 6.4 for upload and 31.2 for download. Not horrible, but could be better.

I've yet to have any issues on ice with Yaktrax, but I'm sure there are a lot of different types out there that suit each particular situation best.

We'd be thrilled with 31.2 download. We're paying for 20, rarely get 10. We're not happy campers.
