Well, hello there, Mr. Aragorn-a-day...
Jan. 7th, 2019 09:45 amIt's been a while!
Yep. I don't know what exactly Photobucket did nor when, but suddenly all my Aragorn-a-day posts have photos again (and I'm assuming all my other PB-related posts, like the Bucky Bobbles ones)! Granted, there's an ugly "proudly hosted by Photobucket" watermark in the corner, but hey, NOT COMPLAINING!

I won't be restarting the A-a-day... I've pretty much moved into the "remembering with fondness" stage of separation from that fandom duty, but I'm very glad to see that PB finally came around to their senses in offering a "free" version that, though limited in storage space, nonetheless works. They now offer tiered monthly plans that are quite reasonable that include removing the watermark. I might think about signing up for that. I have nothing against PB needing to charge to make some money--it is a business, after all. But the ridiculous approach they took when they decided to charge an outrageous amount to be able to embed photos still rankles a bit. But seeing as I've never found an alternative to photo storage and sharing that I've liked as well as PB, I may well end up paying the smallest monthly fee. (I also need to look at storage limits as well; if I've exceeded the limit, I'll need to start paying, I suppose.)
I'm just tickled pink my LJ is whole again!

Date: 2019-01-07 11:06 pm (UTC)I don't mind the water mark. I guess quite a few of my early pictures will be back, too.
I transferred a lot of the church ones that were hosted there to my personal Flickr account when they disappeared, and I will probably just leave them there.
I really like Flickr, I can find my pictures easily as they are all tagged as well as in albums so I haven't put anything much onto Photobucket for a while.

Date: 2019-01-08 06:33 pm (UTC)I may not ever go back and look at the old posts, but it's comforting to know I *can* now. When they suddenly were restored, I realized that I still harbored a lot of resentment that they'd disappeared!

Date: 2019-01-09 02:31 am (UTC)I don' t know their long-term conditions and storage limit, but in general, I'm quite satisfied with imgur for photo hosting, also much more comfortable to use than I remember PB was - it's been years since I used the latter, though. My own hosting is still not back up (entirely due to my own inability to get around to it), and I'm now using it since over a year.

Date: 2019-01-10 06:10 pm (UTC)Yes, imagine that! File under "who knew"!
I store my personal photos with Amazon, which, since I'm an Amazon Prime member, is the only free storage that doesn't compress photos. Not that it would really be an issue if the photos were compressed, since I'm not a professional, but I like the idea of the files remaining intact. As for fandom photos, I might look into imgur, though to be honest, I'm lazy and now that PB is back to some functionality and I know how to use it in my sleep, I'll probably stick with PB.
