I was getting ready to post a photo and noticed a new little option called "migrate photos beta™", so I clicked on it, wondering what it was all about.

If it works... IF... LJ will do a one-time migration of photos from a photo storage site (read: PHOTOBUCKET, but you can also do it from a couple others including Dropbox) to your scrapbook and automatically UPDATE ALL THE LINKS.

Let me repeat that: LJ will do a one-time migration of photos from a photo storage site to your scrapbook and automatically UPDATE ALL THE LINKS.

You can only do it once, but then I would only need to do it once to fix all those broken links that still make me weep if I think too hard about them. Also, while it's in beta test mode, there's no storage limits.

I'm doing it now--there's some 3K photos for it to migrate so who knows how long it will take. They'll send a notification via email when it's done.

I'm excited but trying to temper it because I don't know if this will really work (it is a beta version, after all), but if it does, I will take back every bad thing I ever said about LJ ever!

Update: Never mind. *scowl* It didn't work, not surprisingly. It migrated 3 photos, supposedly, but even those three didn't transfer correctly. Oh well. It was a good idea, I guess.

Booooo, just when you think a place could do something right for once. :P (LJ's got so many issues, but good grief, the way Photobucket has done... everything ever for the last couple of years has made me SO mad.)

It's disappointing that it didn't work (and that there's no easy to find place to leave feedback on the beta), but yeah, kudos to LJ for at least trying. Photobucket really did give the entire internet the shaft.

Oh gosh, that's such a shame. How thrilling that would have been!

I was very disappointed, to say the least. :/

Maybe it will work once they iron out the glitches?

I hope so, and I hope if they do, they'll let me try it again. You can only do it one time, and I've used my one time.

Too little too late as I downloaded and deleted the photobucket when they held my account to ransom. :(

Wonders if this will be a good thing for LJ and users.
Wonders how much space they are willing to give gratis to users for doing this when some of us had Gigabytes in photos.
Hmmmmm.

Well, if I'm any example with 3k plus photos, only 3 of which migrated, they hardly have anything to worry about when it comes to data limits. :P

Oh dear, too bad that that didn't work. I went back looking for some old LJ pictures the other day forgetting about the broken PB links and its depressing to see them gone.

Btw, I didn't see any option called "migrate photos beta" when I checked. Has LJ taken it off already I wonder?

Either they've taken it off or it's not available to everyone yet since it's in beta, maybe.

And yeah, I don't go looking at my LJ's past entries. Too infuriating still!
