cairistiona: (read any good books lately?)

So... I haven't tried uploading today to see if LJ is working because I'm facing a bit of a conundrum.  We've reached the bit in TTT where it's Aragorn thinking back about the whole betrothal with Arwen and his subsequent breaking of it (or attempt to).  Now, for me, it's a lovely scene as far as Aragorn-gazing but as far as canon goes, it's about the biggest, most egregious one of the bunch (my opinion only, your mileage may vary as to whether there are worse breaks from canon).  Part of me really doesn't want to mess with posting that scene, but another part of me wants to so that I stay true to the idea that this is, after all, Aragorn's Movie-verse Journey.  And as I think on that, two things come to mind:  Cormac McCarthy's words to the effect that a movie is a movie, and a book is a book; and the haunting voice of Viggo Mortensen reciting his actor's lament of "the man he once was for a short season lying forgotten in a well-groomed graveyard that smells of popcorn" (Never heard his poem "Edit"?  Go to brego.net here and scroll down for the audio).   Heaven forbid I turn my LJ to such a thing!  And if I don't post that scene, do I also skip the scene where Elrond shows up with Anduril, and do I skip the scene with the palantir and Arwen dying, and do I skip...  do you see where this is going! LOL  I have a feeling I'll end up posting the scenes... maybe with a disclaimer.

But not today.  Today, enjoy Elessar's Charge!  (I really think that'd be a good name for this shot... maybe it is, who knows)

I'd love to see those scenes. :)

I'll post them tomorrow, then... LJ willing and cooperative, that is. :)

Oh, just post a couple screenshots of the scene. It's not like there are many changes during it :P I find it rather boring myself. But better than the Arwen dying subplot (dude, I know you had to scrap Arwen at Helm's Deep, but that was the best you could do? -_-)

LOL... well, I don't find it boring, especially, but I do find it grating as far as the characterization.

A quick glance it will be of that second half, at any rate. ;)

I know what you mean. But, yeah, the Movie is the Movie, and the book still remains!

Of course, I find the hobbit-changes to be more egregious, but I do agree that the Arwen subplot was a bit silly, and really did not even make sense within the movie itself.

the scene where Elrond shows up with Anduril

See, now this is another. I was reallly hoping someone would tackle this in the "Fix the Movie" challenge last year. I mean, Elrond makes the entire journey alone, and then gives the sword to Aragorn, and then what? Sits twiddling his thumbs in the tent until the Rohirrim take it down? Or maybe he stays to take down the tents? Then what? All the way *back* to Rivendell? *shakes head at ridiculousness of it all*

Or maybe he stays to take down the tents?

LOL!! I like this solution best. *g*

*sigh* For as wonderful as the movies were at keeping to the spirit of LOTR, there were some amazing gaffs in it.

I know-- there really were some continuity problems in the script. For example, Gandalf telling Frodo and Sam to meet him in Bree. How the heck was he going to get to Bree when they did if he was going to Isenguard first? You'd think a wizard would be a bit better at geography than that! *grin*

I suppose he figured they'd be happy quaffing ale while they waited on him. ;)

And don't forget, Elrond still had to return to Rivendell to collect Arwen in time to arrive at Minas Tirith!

You know how I hate some of the movie scenes but you are posting the movie journey so I would go ahead. If you cut out everything that deviated, there would be big holes in the story and we would also miss the Brego rescue which I love!

Elrond was a busy boy! *g*

You know how close I was to skipping it, but the more I think about it, and especially after sort of talking it out here, the more I realize I have to keep it all together. And yes, I'd have to start skipping all kinds of things if I was going to try to stick to book canon, so... we'll just grit our teeth and proceed!

and then what? Sits twiddling his thumbs in the tent until the Rohirrim take it down?

He was hurrying ahead to Cormallen the Houses of Healing to prepare for the injured hobbits' arrivals, of course! It takes time to heat all those blankets. Arwen can find her own way south.

I agree with what most everyone else has said...i hate those scenes too, but I think it'd be a shame to leave them out of the movie-verse journey. The movie does exist as its own entity, even if there are parts of it that are more unfortunate than we'd prefer XD.

Huzzah for Elessar's Charge! Hehe

Now that's a gorgeous pic! *loves* I think posting the scenes in question would probably much easier than trying to figure out which of them to post - and, as you said, they do belong to the movies, whether we like them or not. That said, I completely agree with your opinion about the mentioned scenes and understand your reluctance to post them. The one good thing that can be said about them (in my opinion) is that they are nice to look at (in the Elrond scene Aragorn looks gorgeous, too). ;-)

We all seem to be in agreement on this, so yep, we'll see them. In fact, because LJ was actually moving at *lightning speed*, I kid you not, I already have the next 3 days' worth loaded and ready to post. So tomorrow and Friday and Monday are good to go! :)

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

Part of me is sad I'm not in England anymore, but part of me is very glad to be back here enjoying your movie Aragorn journey again.

I don't like those scenes much, though I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to Aragorn gazing, but this is a movie Aragorn journey, and Cormac McCarthy is soooooooooooooooooo right. So, post the scene, and let us enjoy the Aragorn gazing.

As for Aragorn's charge (love the name). It's absolutely glorious. *Bows down*
