Hee - I was thinking of this very scene when I wrote about Éowyn a few months ago;
She hoped, as the only female, she was not expected to cook anything; camp fire cookery was not one of her greatest talents. The food in the saddle bags would be fine cold, and the night was warm enough…
She was pleased to discover that the ellyn in the party didn't think of camp-fire cooking as women's work!
I soooo wanted to put up all the stills... but that would have been too many. And yeah, it doesn't really bear thinking too closely. I'm sure Aragorn had to eat a lot of nasty food without complaint in his days in the wild, so seeing him react so strong to this must mean it was truly heinous! And it failed to earn the Good Dwarfkeeping Seal of Approval besides!
It was such a fun way to introduce some good points of canon about Aragorn's age and being Numenorean. And it's always good in a drama to toss in a bit of humor and this had it in spades. :)
