These films pretty much drain the stock of superlatives. *g*

That first cap of Aragorn and Celeborn is beautiful. I was so glad that they added the gift giving scene, and those bits featuring Aragorn and Celeborn to the EE. The scenes of Aragorn and Celeborn made Celeborn seem wise resolute, which he wasn't on the theatrical version.

And I enjoyed seeing Galadriel with Aragorn, though I still wished she had given him the Elessar.

I was a bit shocked the first time I saw the theatrical release and saw that that the gift-giving scene wasn't in it (I had only seen the EE version). It's such an important part of the story... sometimes I just shook my head at the editing.

My mom said she only understood what was going on in the first film after she saw the EE. Some of the editing decisions were truly bizarre.

I can see where she'd be confused.

I've still only seen the theatrical release once, I think, not counting the version that gets shown on cable/satellite now and then. I don't know what additional cuts that network made, but I do remember they completely cut out the scene where Aragorn wrests the palantir from Sauron and reveals himself. Cutting that scene completely gutted the entire sacrificial aspect of the assault on the Black Gates. I absolutely hated that they did that to ROTK.

Exactly. It should have been at the theatrical release. That is why I don't watch the theatrical releases anymore. *g*

*sniffle* It's always sad to leave that place, even in the movies. ;-) I especially love the first pic - somehow, that scene never looked so beautiful to me when watching the movies. :)

It became even more wrenching to leave there once I had seen the entire trilogy... knowing they were leaving such peace and safety and all the horrors and tragedy that followed. It's a dark road, really, until the light finally shines at the end.
