A couple random head-scratchers...

cairistionaAnyone hear about this in the news? To think that fighter jets were chasing a small plane over my Missouri skies--it's a little... unsettling, I guess. But it was the opposite side of the state from me so no worries here locally. It does reinforce, though, my belief that the US really isn't as secure as we'd like to believe. This guy was harmless, but if he'd intended to drop some kind of suitcase bomb... those fighter jets would have just been blown up along with whatever state was in the drop zone. The big airports are secure enough, I suppose, but all those little FBOs and air strips that are the lifeblood of general aviation... eek. No way to police all of them.
Just another little niggling worry not to think about, I guess. Not much you can do about it even if a terrorist decides to try that route.
The other thing that has me scratching my head is the whole "Viggo is retiring" thing, which is starting to make the rounds of the various media outlets online. I wonder if it's true, or if it was something he said while lost in a fog (or perhaps even a fugue?) of jetlag, fatigue and general burnout from all the pressure of his insane publicity tour schedule. Just looking at his calendar on viggo-works makes me tired; I can't imagine how he must be feeling. I do hope that he gets some rest and then eventually gets back into films, but if he doesn't, I'm grateful at least for what he did in LOTR and Hidalgo. But I kind of wonder how "permanent" it will be, given that he's also said he'd like to finish out the Aragorn role, and then there's Cronenberg's news about a sequel to Eastern Promises. I can't imagine Viggo telling his buddy David "sorry". But then, maybe he will. One thing about Viggo, he's always done his own thing his own way.
