^^^ Me, after watching the TV spot for Captain America: Civil War last night before the Super Bowl. (Can I get a witness, mrowe ???? Everything kinda hurts right now. *sigh*)
I'm tellin' ya, I have never simultaneously eagerly anticipated and absolutely dreaded a movie more than this one. *sigh* That we'll probably see some of the process of Bucky *remembering* everything is gutting me far more than I thought it would. I mean, I've read the comics and fanfiction and written it... but some of those scenes are just punching me right in the heart. Ugh.
If you need some Bucky & Steve fluff, JulieJules has updated her "Better Days" collection of WWII-era Steve & Bucky tale compilation:
As I said: angsticipation. And yes, the knife does go straight into the feels with this one.
You know, somewhat over a year ago, I was blissfully unaware of any of this... I won't even ask what went wrong, because I know. *glares at Steve and Bucky*
You know, somewhat over a year ago, I was blissfully unaware of any of this... I won't even ask what went wrong, because I know. *glares at Steve and Bucky*
*nods* I had no clue when I watched the first Cap movie what lay ahead, just as when I read RoTK for the first time and saw this Halbarad fella suddenly show up and get a hug from Aragorn, I had no idea that his entrance into the story would result in my heart breaking into sixteen million pieces.
OOOh dear. Do I need warnings... I don't mind spoilers if it will brace me for anguish?!!! It sounds awful. Do I need to see "The Winter Soldier" cos I missed it on the cinema here, so that's a blank.
I'm in love, as you know, with these guys and I've only see this last Avengers (three times in the cinema!!!) So I think I need educating.
Looking at my Best Ranger in this, I'm dead worried, and sick with anticipation and .... my fingernails look AWFUL!
Have pity on an old old fragile cronefan.... Oooh Aragorn, aidez-moi!!!
Oh my heavens, yes, you NEED to see Winter Soldier!! I thought you had! Have you seen the first Captain America movie? If so, watch it, too, because then you'll see the origins of Captain America (and skinny little weak Steve is *so* adorable, as is Big Steve Getting Used To His New Body. And Peggy Carter! Oh you will adore Peg as much as Steve Rogers does. Bucky's got some key scenes in that one, too, so you'll see their friendship in those days). Then watch the first Avengers movie to pick up more on Steve & Tony's somewhat problematic relationship--frenemies? friends? two good guys always at loggerheads? two very strong personalities that clash terribly at times?--then watch Winter Soldier and you'll have yourself caught up on Steve Rogers and Bucky's story arc leading into this third Cap movie. But if you can only see one... make it Winter Soldier. If nothing else, you will then understand my Bucky obsession. :DDD
I don't know how much to possibly spoil you about plotlines, though, so I'll just say for the moment that a) Bucky is at the heart of the upcoming Captain America film; b) there'll be a lot of his backstory; c) I've heard that depending on the final edit, it's possible that the film will have more screen time for Bucky than Steve; d) which Bucky will need if it goes where the comic book Civil War plot goes. Bucky will have to go from perceived villain (not that he *is* a villain, because he's not; more an anti-hero if you have to put a label on him) to the hero he once was in just one movie (in the comics, it was a lot of comic books and time) because Steve will... not be Captain America by its end and Bucky will become Captain--not because he wants to but because Steve asks Tony to make sure he takes up the shield because otherwise Bucky will be lost. So there's SO much heart rending that will go on, on so many levels.
One comfort: in the comics, Steve does return. So no matter what happens in Cap: Civil War, Steve will be back in the next Avengers 2 films in some fashion (I'm guessing to resume his place as Captain, but who knows; in the comics, he was so disillusioned by everything that he actually takes on another persona called Nomad and does Good Things but more under the radar; he does eventually return to head up the Avengers again). Also comforting: Chris Evans still has 2 movies to go on his contract, plus he doesn't want to give up the role, plus Marvel has said they struck gold with Chris Evans, plus he's become the most beloved Marvel character onscreen. Sooooo... let's just say that all of that comforts me somewhat when I hear rumors like the one yesterday where an insider said that Seb Stan has already been fitted for "his Captain America uniform". *flails with so many conflicting emotions* It makes sense because yeah, in the comics, he takes up the shield for a time. BUT I AM NOT READY YET FOR THAT. no, nope, nada, huh uh, nyet, NO.
Marvel's superpower is making such good characters and good stories that it rips our hearts out. *sigh*
OMGAAAAAAD.... It will take me a week to read and digest all this.... and my purse will be growing moths for months to come, (Amazon will be laughing all the way through their tax breaks..haha TIS MY MUNNY you're waving about Amazon!!)
So list me the ones I MUST get that they do on dvd... And in what order. THEN I shall retire from LJ for a few months, while I lay me on my hosp bed recovering from all the damned ops they're going to put me through. (New pacemaker cos apparently I've really got a truly tin heart.. my own doesn't work without the battery in!!!) so I have to have that done, hopefully before the hip replacement, and then the second hip replacement... see what I mean.... LOTS of time to get my blood pressure nice and high for them to worry about!!! teehee.
Could you be a darling and tell me which are the best and the right ones to get.. I don't want the animated, or the oldie ones... I WANT STEEEEEEVE and BUCKY and Peggy and Natasha and.... who are all those others... like RDJr and a certain Chris H... or a Loki-Hiddle Stone - teehee.
Bless you, sounds so full of ANgst and HOPE and LOVE and excitement and ALL THOSE SUPER THINGS... that only the SUPER SUPERS can do.. not us normal twitchy little humans! Oh my, the things you say about my wee Steve... a wee fragile STEVE?? with those BIG strong wonderful ARMS... (which I am going to need next week!!!)
OH bless you for this ENORMOUS reply... oh my oh my !!!!
Oh my goodness, I feel so absolutely remiss! I was just merrily going along thinking you'd seen ALL the movies. Okay then, here's the must-sees for Steve Rogers, in order:
Captain America: The First Avenger Marvel's The Avengers Captain America: The Winter Soldier And of course Age of Ultron, which you've seen.
You can hopefully pick up any of those three used for not a lot of money?
If you're feeling like you have all kinds of time and money, here's the entire list of Marvel movies, in chronological order:
Phase One: Iron Man (2008) The Incredible Hulk (2008... though frankly, I wouldn't bother unless you're a diehard Hulk fan) Iron Man 2 (2010) Thor (2011) Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) Marvel's The Avengers (2012)
Phase Two: Iron Man 3 (2013) Thor: The Dark World (2013) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Ant-man (2015)
The new Captain America: Civil War will start Phase 3, and according to Anthony Mackie, who plays The Falcon, the fans are not emotionally prepared for it. Yikes.
All of the movies are terrific fun, each having it's own sort of spin (for example, Winter Soldier is a spy thriller; Ant-man is a fun heist film), and each, erm, famous for including at least one shirtless hunk shot. *g* And they ALL have mid-credit and post-credit scenes, most of which hint at what's coming next.
Also, here's skinny, pre-serum Steve Rogers, bless him:
He's just so doggone feisty and cute, like a chihuahua who's all growl and fight and has no idea how small he is. He has a laundry list of health problems longer than yours, you dear thing. I do hope all your upcoming surgeries go well. Such a worry!
(Fun fact about "skinny Steve" - Chris Evans didn't have a hope of ever getting THAT skinny, nor that short, so they digitally 'shrunk' him, plus had a "skinny Steve" body double. There's some excellent behind-the-scenes extras that came with the Blu-ray DVDs but you can see them online. Here's the one of them making him skinny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA5NxSs7WUo)

Just four chapters so far, but very good stuff and a nice antidote to the Overwhelming Sads.
