From what I've read & heard, that's exactly the reaction. I might try it again, mixing it with butter. That might dilute it's very strong salty flavor. I think it might be good as an addition to stuff, but definitely not on its own. :P
Maybe if I had some darker bread... I only had white on hand, and the Marmite pretty much overpowered it. I kind of figure a small amount mixed with other flavors might be palatable.
I definitely lean more your way than toward "I love it". I'm going to try a few other ways of eating it to see if it's a flavor that can complement other flavors, but I'm not exactly confident!
*giggles* I don't remember if I ever tried it when in Britain - it's not available here -, and now I'm not allowed to eat it anyway (metabolism thing) so I don't want to try it in case I might love it. ;o)
Oh definitely don't try it if you can't eat it anyway, because the way things like this go, you'd love it and crave it constantly for the rest of your life!
I need to experiment more with it... surely there's a way to make it palatable! (I did put a dab on a bite of baked potato... it wasn't bad. Added a nice little salty bite to the butter and sour cream).
