*laughs* The King upon his Throne! I was thinking, looking at that saddle ... how uncomfortable it must be! Although we're supposed to ride with our legs extended more or less straight down, we don't "sit" that way upon the saddle until we move. Hmmmmmm
I hadn't either, until you brought it up. And as I look closer, I see it's not around his neck but is actually hanging from the reins. So to google I went and turns out it's a sort of rein barding, which on medieval horses could be armored, to protect the reins from being cut. Aragorn's looks to be completely decorative, more just hanging from the rein instead of actually covering it. Maybe the Gondorian horse-caparison makers hadn't got the memo about making it a cover and not just a banner. *g*
Interesting what we're still noticing and learning about these films!
Must also be difficult to grip properly with chainmail on thighs! slippery or hard... damned uncomfy anyway. (looks here like he's got his feet out of the stirrups or they're very very long)(or maybe just going to kick heels to start off...?) I hope it was a nice 'comfy' high-pommel/backed saddle - the sort like an armchair! Looks a bit like one.
I wondered about that... thinking it would have been split along the back of the leg, which caused me to think, "Nah, that'd leave him vulnerable to hamstringing"?? But up the middle would be a fair compromise. And it does look like the mail is bunched a little, as if it were split.
Whew - thank goodness!!! (PJ might have had trouble if Aragorn had gone into battle running in an odd way!) (sporfles) (and of course, those thighs.........)
