The name Missouri comes from an Illini Indian word meaning "Land of Big Canoes" and I think after the last two days of rain, every resident should be issued one. We had 5 inches last night in a storm that lasted about an hour. There were only two small puddles in the basement so I count it a win as far as potential disaster goes. The front yard is looking like a marsh.

The WiFi is down, so no Aragorn until they get it back online. :/

Five inches in an hour!! (I wonder if we get even that much a year these days?) What a relief that your basement didn't flood, whew!

Yeah, that's the kind of rain that will test the soundness of your foundation...guess hubby has done a good job fixing leaks over the years. Some people repoort having 3 feet of water in their basements! Thankfully that kind of deluge doesn't happen too often, though this summer has been pretty wet so far.

I wish I could send some of this your way!

I'll definitely take 2 small puddles over what it used to do, which was 2-3 inches of water over the entire basement. What a mess! Our driveway washed out (along with nearly everyone else's), but hubby shoveled most of the rock back where it belongs.

It was. TOO much rain all at once. All the rivers have flooded and the big lakes in the region are so high that floodgates are open on most dams and the governor has declared the entirety of them as no-wake zones, which will really mess up the holiday weekend for a lot of water skiers. :/ There's been water rescues and farmers stranded on one side of a usually-low creek/river while their cattle (or their houses!) are on the other. Fun times.

And elsewhere in Miserablouri tornadoes.
Honestly, no such thing as "normal" weather.
We haven't died from heat yet, but I'd trade ya any day ... well, 'cept for those wind demons; y'all can keep them!
LOL

((hugs ya))

I'll definitely take flood over drought... floods recede far more quickly than land recovers from drought. We're *still* recovering from the drought from a few years back, although I think after this spring/summer, the soil and groundwater will finally be completely caught up.

XD at your icon!

I'm a HUGE fan of ran. Like, a ridiculous fan of rain (my family is perpetually amused by just how much I bask in the coziness of a rainy day at home) - but it certainly no fun AT ALL to have things reaching near flood-levels like that! Annoying to have the internet go out, too. So I hope you get some sun to dry things out!
