The Martian official trailer is out!!!

Actually there are two trailers, the "official" one and a "viral teaser" one. Personally, I like the viral teaser one better because it shows a lot more Sebby. *g* But the film looks really good. It feels very, for lack of a better term, NASA-y, as it should if it does the book any justice at all.

And the 'viral' one:

It's almost too much to hope that this one will rank up there with Apollo 13, which is my all-time favorite 'scifi with the emphasis on the sci' space movie, but it looks very promising. :)

They haven't been shouting it from the rafters like they do with Marvel movies, but I think the promotion will start in earnest now... they released a bunch of stills as well. It looks really, really cool.

I am so going to enjoy this movie (and would even without Sebby *g*)

Yep. Even sans Sebby, if it's done right at all, it'll be amazing.

But I'm glad Sebby's in it. *G*

My inner space/NASA nerd, my inner fan of the book, my not-so-inner Sebby fangirl, and my inner love-good-NASA-movies geek are all screeching like pterodactyls right now.

It's quite noisy in my head.

(And I'm also thrilled for Sebby, who's a space nerd himself and wanted to be an astronaut... he finally gets to be one, after a fashion. Plus he finally gets to have a role that's not dark. Chris Beck is a minor but important character in the book and a real sweetie.)

Ooooh, man, it looks so good! :D The Martian was one of the books I read on the trip, so now I'm all excited about the movie! Looks like they're gonna do a good job of translating the humor and personality well from the written-log-form to the big screen where you don't "hear" every thought in the character's head.

Ooh, yay, you liked the book! \o/

I wondered as I was reading it how they'd translate all those diary entries into 'real-time' film scenes. I imagined voice-overs and Matt Damon talking to himself a lot, and that seems to be the way they did it.

And Sebs as Chris Beck makes me so happy. I would have loved him in the lead, but he's not established enough (yet). But Chris Beck is a perfect supporting role for him. He'll get to do all kinds of emoting with those big blue eyes of his. *g*

I have high hopes! And if nothing else... I'll get to see Sebs on screen. *g*

He should do a really good job as Mark Watney. :D Have you read the book?

There's a book? Is it worth reading? I might just pick it up one of these days.

Definitely worth reading, especially if you enjoy sort of real-life feel, science-y scifi. It's by Andy Weir. When I heard that Seb Stan had a role, I went out and bought it (it also happened to be on sale for Kindle that particular day, so double win). I think it took me about 4 days to read it (in the past when I read more voraciously, it would have taken maybe 2)... really gripping, suspenseful and really, really funny at times. There's even LOTR references. :D
