Book news!
Feb. 11th, 2015 04:13 pmYou know I've been beta reading Michael J. Sullivan's Rhune novel, which is the first in a prequel series for his Riyria Revelations series. I just finished it (the reading portion; still have to do some feedback questionnaires and follow-up type things), and I'm happy to say it's even better than the first time through, which only makes sense as it's one draft closer to the final version.
But even better news! He's found a publisher for the entire 4-book series, and a biggie at that: Del Rey! The Riyria series was issued by Orion as trade paperbacks, but this series will be the full hardback-first-followed-by-paperback treatment, so a big step up for him. I'm so excited for him--he was prepared to self-publish but this is so much better.
*does crazy happy dance*
His FB post about it here and his website announcement, which is more detailed and includes information about audiobook versions, here.

Date: 2015-02-12 12:52 pm (UTC)It also makes me very happy to see this happening because he's writing against the "everything is awful and grey and horrible and let's kill off everyone" trend that's so huge right now. He's the optimistic light to GRR Martin's and Joe Abercrombie's and Mark Lawrence's pessimistic grimdark stuff. If readers like grimdark, fine, but there's been such an imbalance of it in the fantasy genre in recent years. I hope that the popularity of Sullivan's works will open the door to authors who want to travel through fantasy's dark lands with heroes that carry a little brighter torch.
