Presenting Pentatonix:

This style of a capella music, where the artists not only sing but vocally produce all instrumental sounds, has quietly been part of American music for a long time, but its popularity is growing thanks in no small part to the NBC singing competition, "The Sing-Off", which airs in December every year. Pentatonix won first place in season 3. More at their website here.

And [livejournal.com profile] engarian, you might get tickled at this video... the "beat boxer" of this group also plays cello, both traditionally and... not so traditionally. :)

Awesome! ♥ Another type of music I grew up with and deeply love (Swingle Singers, anyone? Doing Bach?), and it's so nice to see that this awesome way of making is slowly becoming more popular and wide-spread. During my time in the Bach-choir in my Uni years I once participated at a concert the other way round, so to speak, when we as singers (choristers? what is the corret term? I find the dictionary's answer a bit weird) were performing instrumental parts not meant to be sung, put as part of the orchestra.

Yes, Swingle Singers! I'd heard of the name but never actually gave them a listen but that's the exact same genre of singing (yes, I think I'd call it singing, even if it's not pronouncing actual words). How neat that you did some of that yourself!
