I Wonder As I Wander is a classic American folk carol from the Appalachian region. I love this arrangement--it really reflects the music of the region, and also of the area where I live, which isn't considered Appalachia but shares so many similarities in culture and heritage that it might as well be. :)

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] suzll, for the link to this version! I may or may not have become addicted....

What a lovely rendition of a song I've always considered rather haunting. She's quite talented with the hammered dulcimer, an instrument that is much harder to master than many may think. Thanks for your choice today.

I have a friend who made his own hammered dulcimer, which is the only time I've been able to try my hand at one, and you're absolutely right--like most instruments, it's much harder to play, let alone master, than it looks!

Oh, that is just beautiful. I just love that kind of music! (LOL, all the more so after hearing certain modern Christmas songs a few too many times in a row in recent days... XD)

I know what you mean... I'm tired of hearing the same dozen songs or so over and over and over and over and....

*bangs head on wall*

I do love the standards and there'll be a few here in days to come, but it's been fun to dig through youtube to find lesser known renditions.

Lovely! Another favourite, but I had no idea it was an American folk carol from the Appalachian region.

I knew it was American but not that it was Appalachian. More info about it here, if you're interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Wonder_as_I_Wander

It's one I enjoy quite a bit but tend to forget each year, probably because it doesn't get constant air-play on my local radio, which seems too enamored of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and Baby It's Cold Outside. I was so glad Suzll sent me the link to this version.

This is the first time I heard this, very beautiful! I like this kind of quiet, calm music, particularly for the Advent time. It's also very lovely to hear it played on (?) the Dulcimer, an instrument I really like for folk and traditional music. Thanks for finding this gem! :o)

I love having that kind of music playing in the background when I write. I would love to someday learn the hammered dulcimer, but they're quite expensive! (And there's so many Aragorn statues to buy... okay, just one that I want, but it's even more expensive, so I'll just have to listen to recordings of dulcimer music and look longingly at photos of the statue.)

And yes "played on" is the proper grammar. :)
