I went through the trauma this weekend of getting a new computer.  The computer itself is nice and shiny and works sooooo much better than our old one, but I hate having to set up everything.  It's a Windows 8 machine, but after trying to find our way through a new operating system, hubby basically said, "Screw it" and downloaded a program that makes Window 8 work like Windows 7 (like normal Windows, in other words, with a desktop and a start button, etc).  I'm sure if there'd been no alternative, we would have learned Windows 8 without any trouble, but... meh, life's too short and there are so many other more interesting things to learn.

I had been enjoying a nice wallpaper of TH:AUJ for the last year or so on the old 'puter, but I decided it was time to go back to an Aragorn theme:

I'm not big on change so I imagine this will be the desktop wallpaper for the foreseeable future, unless I keep getting lost in all The Pretteh at deviantart. Goodness, there's a lot of shiny over there....

(Aaaand, I foolishly forgot to bookmark the link to the above wallpaper... if I can ever find it again, I'll edit this post with the link to it. Or if you know it, please share!)

Ooh! New computer!

My husband has already said that when he gets a new computer he will just put that conversion programme on straight away - even though we both have Windows 8 tablets.

I'm promiscuous when it comes to wallpaper on the desktop - I change mine about twice a month! I do, usually, save them and then repeat occasionally, though.

It does seem most people do the conversion program, at least on their desktop computers.

I will probably change mine occasionally... maybe sooner than a year this time, as long as I can rediscover where I found this wallpaper. I still can't believe I didn't bookmark it. *sigh*

When my computer tech (Geek Squad) says "don't use IE 10 or put in Windows 8" I listen. Not that I'm going to get a new compie any time soon, but I've heard such nightmares about 8. It's not running as a computer OST anymore but more like your "smart" phone.

Since I don't have one of those, I'm not impressed.

But I DO like the wallpaper. Haven't been to Deviant in ages and then stopped by this morning to drool over ilxwing's Silm artwork. She has a Finrod and Glorfindel to take to bed at night. LOL

LOL... well, my IT guy is my hubby, and he found a VERY good deal on this computer ($350 is all), and since we knew we could add the program that makes it more like Windows 7 etc, it was worth it. It still reverts to Windows 8 on a few things but I'm learning it.

Love her stuff! Especially this one: http://ilxwing.deviantart.com/art/Aragorn-65108751 and this one: http://ilxwing.deviantart.com/art/hunters-Aragorn-125547185

Her Glorfindel looks a little too Orlando Bloomish for my tastes but Finrod is *quite* nice. :)

What a lovely wallpaper! We got a new 'puter' about three weeks ago and we decided on Windows 7 right away, even if it was older and more expensive - lucky us. But I knew it from work and I'm always suspicious about 'new' better programs. Give them a few years time and they will work fine, but in the beginning... bah.

I would have preferred Windows 7, but we found such a good deal on this computer, and knew we could add the program to make it like 7, so we took a chance. It's working out so far, at least! But I'm like you, I'd far rather wait a few years for them to work out the bugs than jump on the latest version straight out of the box.

Good luck with the new computer. I HATE Windows 8 and use Classic shell to make it more bearable.I tend to stick with the same wallpaper too. What is TH:AUJ? Very pretty wallpaper!

TH:AUJ - "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". :)

There's really not much to like about Windows 8 as far as I'm concerned!

At home, I still have good old XP and I'm happy with it. I plan to use it until it dies. And starting from next week, I'll get 8 at work, so we'll see... I guess it'll be a big change for me, but I'll have to get used to it.

I loved XP and hated when our computer with it died. :( We've been using Vista and it wasn't *too* bad. We certainly didn't have any huge difficulties with it compared with what others experienced. But XP was a good system. Microsoft seems to be in a good-bad-good-bad-good-bad pattern when it comes to their new operating systems. :/

I won't be changing to Windows 8 anytime soon, I see. Lovely wallpaper! I hope you stumble on the link again. Have I ever told you that I have over 300 Aragorn wallpapers stored in my computer? It's verily a humongous collection.

I change wallpapers every day.

I think you did tell me you had about that many wallpapers, yes. *g* You have very nearly enough for an entire year! Have you poked around deviantart.com to see if there's any there you don't have?

And yes, hold off on Windows 8 if you can, but if you can't, have your computer guy add the additional program to make it work like Windows always has.

I dislike having to get used to new things, too - computers, phones, that sort of gadgety things. Lol I would have still kept my (very) old Nokia 3210 if hubby hadn't bought me a new one.

Lovely desktop!

Yep, I know exactly how you feel! Sometimes I think I'd still be typing on my old beloved IBM Selectric typewriter. LOL Okay, probably not THAT resistant to change, but still...
