I've been staring at these, but words just won't come. The more I see this man, Viggo, and the character Aragorn that he somehow embodies, the more I'm totally floored.

I'm always amazed how different he looks. Like he lost a lot of weight in a couple of days. And sometimes I'm able to see Viggo behind Aragorn and in some pictures I can hardly believe that it is him at all. *sighs* 'totally floored' is just the right description
maybe it is only the wig...

I know what you mean. Sometimes there's a very ordinary explanation for the weightloss--the scenes were filmed at different times, some at the beginning of filming, some toward the very end, and Viggo's weight (and hair length!) fluctuated. But other times... it's the expression and the body language... and Viggo becoming the very embodiment of Aragorn.

I love Aragorn both in his determined mode, and in his sad one. The second shot though is among my all time favourites because I can't get over the poignancy of that wistful look on his face.

That second one is a fave of mine, too, for the sort of weary-yet-still-keen look in his eyes--he may be exhausted but still no one to trifle with! But you're right, there is a little wistfulness, too, though... maybe wishing all this hadn't been necessary.
