The expression reminds me of a comment from Elijah Wood 'something makes click and he becomes slightly mental'- I suppose he looks like this when it happens...
I wonder if he does have such a dark temper - in RL I mean. I suppose he must have.... he writes in a poem that one 'must show the darkness that is within us...'
But Aragorn would only use it when he sees someone endangering another!!!!

We all do, I think (just look at any adolescent!). It's a matter of how well we control those darker impulses. Some seem never to have learned how to tame their inner beast, while thankfully most of us have figured it out, at least enough to coexist peacefully with our fellow man. :)
I think Vigs has come to terms with his 'dark'.... and that's why he so seldom seems bad tempered. Tired, yes, exhausted , yes. but roaring bad tempered.... never heard of it.
But I've got Sign Language and that is.... darkly down. dreadful really. But... it is Vigs. and he published it, so... telling us he has a 'dark'....
Sign Language is the first of his I ever read (it was the only one of his books in our local library). Very dark in places but brilliant all the same. But the one I tend to re-read most is Skovbo. That one's my favorite. :)
OOOPs I'm going really gaga.... It's not Sign Language I've got, it's on my wish list and NOW PURCHASED with Skovbo. but the dark one is 45301... that backward written title. Can't think why I thought it was Sign Language. been browsing in my wishlist too much!!!!
45301 IS the dark one. awful. Sign Language I must now wait and read. and I;m getting the audio book THe Little Prince..aaaaah lots of luvely voice. (as I've just realised I can read either region one or two on my tv or my new pc. Lucky old me.

Ah, okay. It's been several years since I looked at Sign Language (despite having received a copy as a gift not long ago... I just haven't really gotten back into it yet). But I couldn't remember a *lot* of dark in Sign Language, although the cover is kind of squicky. LOL So it's 45301. I've never seen that one.
I hope you enjoy Skovbo... it's great especially in the dead of winter, when you think you'll never see green leaves again.
