Half a league, half a league, Half a league to the gates, All in the valley of Death Rode the Grey Company. Legolas to the right of him, Gimli to the left of him, King of Death in front of him. Flash’d all their elven blades bare, Banner flapping in the air, Halbarad and Elladan riding there, And all the Company wonder’d: Would they make it thru the night, Would they ride till dawn daylight, Or would Death’s army in their wake Cause their beating hearts to break? Through the mountain pass they rode, To Erech high and then below Across the fields of Gondor rode, Rode the Grey Company. To Pelennor the King did come, His banner now shining in the sun, His sword now raised against the foe To ease the hearts, his country’s woe, Against the Dark his Star did glow, And onward rode the Grey Company! Will their glory fade away? Will song and tribute die this day? Or be remembered the brave deeds, Of elves and men on mounted steeds, Their brave hearts beating this one refrain, “We will not die, our hope in vain, For He, our King, has come again.” Honor those who rode that day, Honor those, the price they paid, Honor the Grey Company.
With sincere apologies to my favorite Poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Oh, what a terrific "re-rendering" (is that what you'd call it? Or an homage?) of The Charge of the Light Brigade! This is just wonderful, and fits the pic perfectly!
*bows, blushing* I blame the picture and the lines 'cannon to the right' which instantly came to mind. LOL I call it bad imitation but then, I'm not a poet. XD
