Really? I thought they did pretty well with the crown, given the canon description. Before RotK came out, I was a bit worried that he would end up looking like a parody of Captain America. Although I guess it could have been more helm-like and less medieval-king-of-england-esq. (Yes, I know nothing about crowns, and thus am making up descriptors off the top of my sleep-deprived head!)
Aaaah the happy couple. Arwen does look truly aaaaah inside. And Aragorn in #1 so shiningly anticipatory - is that a few minutes before he hops into action with Arwen?
I agree with the crown, it's a bit lumbery. They could have 'Elfed' it a bit. And it looks as if that point really presses on the brow. If he frowned he'd spear his skin!

Oh but I rather like the crown. The one Tolkien described: a tall conical helmet with back-swept wings would have been horrible! Shades of The Mighty Thor! LOL
I've seen some artistic renderings that try to do a literal take on the crown, like this one. It kind of brings to mind a mash-up of Mercury and the Coneheads from 1970s/1980s era SNL:
(and looks like, if Moses Gandalf had settled it securely, it would have come down to his nose and completely covered his eyes!)
I've mixed feelings about PJ's version of the crown--even though I might have skipped the upright Art Deco gee-gaw above his forehead (or at least made it smaller), it does at least include the idea of wings without veering into the ridiculous.
