#1, man he just took a long soaky bath in the river, after fighting ugly orks and uruks and wargs yet he's still so grotty even the bugs won't light!
There was a fanfic... I think it was by KC, where Aragorn explained being "grotty" meant the bugs wouldn't bother him out in the field. Dunno how true that would be in reality, but you just KNOW the hobbits would have something to say (or do) about that and don't even get me started with Legolas! He and Gimli would have soap and towels at 40 paces and I'm sure Boromir would help! LOL
I don't know about bugs, but I do know that around here, hunters don't usually shower before they go out, or if they do, they use special unscented soap, so the perfume doesn't alert the wild game.
I guess it takes more than a float down a river to get weeks worth of grime washed away!
