My heart is broken, and my prayers go out to the families, the parents, the loved ones, and to the first responders who are working this horrific tragedy. I have been struggling all day to find words, to find eloquence and just can't, so here instead are words from writers who have the eloquence I lack.

Can I see another's woe, and not be in sorrow too?  - William Blake

I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil. - J.R.R. Tolkien

Sorrow comes in great waves...but rolls over us, and though it may almost smother us, it leaves us. And we know that if it is strong, we are stronger, inasmuch as it passes and we remain. - Henry James

*hugs* It's an evil I can't begin to grasp.

*hugs* I feel you with the not finding words. There just...aren't any. I can't even begin to imagine. But that last quote is especially fitting.

*hugs* I do find a lot of comfort in that last quote.

I remember so well how I felt the day of the Dunblane massacre, as the parent of a child attending a similar school - and my heart goes out, not only to the families directly affected, but to everyone else who feels the sense of shock and sorrow mixed with unbelief. Especially you, and the others I know here.

Being a parent does add another facet to the sorrow, doesn't it.

It is heart-breaking. I simply can't understand the minds of those killers. Not in a million years.
Condolences to the families... :(

It's so very hard to understand. I'm sure as more information about this person comes out, we might gain a little insight, but even so... one wonders just what it is that breaks in a person's mind that makes them do something like this.

This is just beyond terrible. How those parents set about rebuilding their lives I can't imagine. I read that the head teacher died trying to tackle the gunmen. What amazing courage.

Now, a day later, it feels almost surreal... you have this feeling of "did Friday really happen?" I've stayed away from the news as much as I can today, partly in order to wait on actual facts. Yesterday it seemed like the story changed minute by minute and there were so many false reports. Today they're saying several of the adults in the school--the principal, the counselor and teachers--gave their lives to try to protect the children. They died heroes, most definitely.
