It's astonishing to me that Viggo's never won an Oscar on his own merits, either for LOTR or some of his other roles. And yes, Sean Astin definitely should have gotten one for his Samwise!
It is kind of hard to pin down who would be the lead... I guess Elijah Wood? Or co-leads between Viggo and Elijah and maybe Sir Ian. And Sean Astin. And... well, yes, ensemble indeed!
