Singer Andy Williams has died. *sigh*

I grew up, as I suspect many of you did, watching his specials on TV. Christmas was always filled with his silky voice coming from our television and from my Mom's big stereo cabinet.  I remember as a little girl sitting with one of his album covers on my lap as I listened to the  music, thinking what a wonderful smile he had and how easy he made singing look.

They don't make them like Andy anymore.  I pray he's found peace at the rainbow's end, just around the bend, with his huckleberry friend and Moon River...

I heard that this morning. Very sad. I'm with you on seeing the specials; AND his weekly programme. They played a bit of him singing "Moon River" and I just paused, stood there watching the video and having one of those memory moments. I couldn't move for anything... just letting his voice carry me back to being a child again and all the little hopes and dreams his songs used to bring me back then.

I think with all the old singers, the Rat Pack, et al, passing away, our world is losing something very special; an innocence (whether real or not) that we will never recoup. :(

Oh, I know just that feeling, which is why I had to post that video of Moon River. That song especially seems to carry a wistfulness and optimism that few songs can evoke.

I agree. A read of any biography will tell you that those singers weren't very innocent, but back then, they didn't flaunt it like they do now. It was all about romance and class and behaving like gentlemen and ladies. That sort of thing seems all but lost these days. *sigh*

He had a pure, beautiful voice like John Denver's. I remember him very well, and this news makes me sad. What a lovely tribute you give him.

He really did have a purity of tone that was a true gift. Would that today's music industry look for singers like him instead of pretty faces who can't sing unless they use auto-tune. *sigh*

Very sad. I remember his songs from my childhood with great affection.

They're the songs when you hear them, give you a smile. I know I'll probably tear up a little this Christmas when I hear "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" for the first time.

I love Moonriver and I love his voice. He does make singing seem easy.

He had a voice for the ages, and yet he was very humble about it. Our local news showed an interview clip (he lived in this region and had a theater, in Branson, Missouri, so for us, losing him is like losing a neighbor) where he said he was only just starting to believe he was as good as the rest of them (Sinatra, Dean, etc). And this when he was nearly 80!

He was as good as all of them.
