I imagine a lot of you are like me, going around with your head stuck in another world at least 98% 50% of the time.  Here's an interesting article that should reassure all of us that living that way is something to be embraced!

On The Necessity of Cultivating A Secret Life

How fun to read a Christian speaking and thinking this way! Along with the writing, the mental fantasy, I had to smile as it's also a way of looking at our lives in this world.

When I was in the Wicca one of the precepts they tried to impress on the priesthood is "Be IN the world not OF it." Easier said than done lemme tell you! But really, that's exactly what that man is writing about, only substitute worshiping God or Goddess or walking the Spiral instead of writing that fiction story of fantasizing about walking Middle Earth.

I think we all need that "otherness" to maintain our balance in the world as it has become. The more stress pins me down the more my mind wants to take off and fly with the birds! Or go play fantasy games or make up stories for my BJD muses! LOL

I thought it was an interesting viewpoint given the Christian beliefs of the author as well--most Christians I've known seem to frown on too much daydreaming! But I do think it's vitally important to keep an active imagination, just like children have. It was nice to see someone else thinking the same thing. :)

I hear you. I build stories in my head for stress relief quite often--I figure it's cheaper than therapy and healthier than most anti-depressants!

I could have done with some 'elsewhere' today... but an interesting article:)

Unfortunately, it seems that when you need most to go "elsewhere", you can't!

Yes. For me, it sums up everything that writing and fanfic is all about.

Maintaining a secret life is necessary for holding on to my joy and sanity. *Coughs* I have been known, during a long, boring day at work, to be plotting and planning all kinds of stories in my head!

Oh, same here! I no longer work in a paid environment, but as I care for my ailing mother and run errands for all and sundry, my brain is generally somewhere east of the Shire and west of Rivendell. Middle-earth therapy, I call it. :)

That was exactly my feeling. LOL I honestly don't know how people who *don't* have a huge inner world to escape to cope. I'd go insane.

Very reassuring! It's nice to know either that I have healthy mental escapes ... or I'm insane but in good company. *g*
