First hint of spring!

Our frigid wintry weather pattern has finally broken this week. Today was sunny and 67F/19c this afternoon... it felt heavenly.
On my way to the mailbox, I spotted these:

Such a surprise to see these little daffodils already sticking their noses out! Actual blossoms are a ways off yet.
I had a check up with my family practitioner this morning, the one who keeps tracks of allergy meds and the like, and I was pleased to see that I hadn't gained *quite* as much weight post-surgery as I feared. Plus, my blood pressure, which after the surgery had been running a little high, was well within normal limits this time. I suspect both post-surgical pain and the pain medicines I was on during that time were the cause of the higher readings, but given that hypertension runs rampant in my family, I try to keep a very close eye on it. It's always fun seeing this doctor... he's just as compassionate and fun to laugh with as my two surgeons. I did have to explain all the details about my breast cancer, mastectomies and reconstruction, because being a family practitioner, such things are well out of his range of expertise. (And, just to update: everything is going well with reconstruction, and I'll probably have the final surgery in mid-April.)
After that happy appointment, I spent the morning with two very dear friends. D. is from Costa Rica, but has lived here for 20-some years. She's married to a US serviceman who is currently stationed in Kuwait. In fact, we were surprised in the middle of our visit when he called via Skype, so I was able to chat with him for the first time in ages. (I'm still amazed you can talk with someone on the other side of the world over the Internet and it doesn't cost a penny!) The other friend, W., is a cancer survivor just coming off a lot of hard and heavy treatment. She's looking fit and very much on the mend, though she still has some healing to do and weight to put back on. We had a marvelous time, chatting and talking about parenting teenage girls (oy, yes, all three of us have one), and just generally having fun together.
All that plus the good weather made for a very pleasant Tuesday for me. I hope everyone else had good Tuesdays as well!
