Several in one fell swoop of an entry:
Day Six
In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Fandom in general has changed my life, just by giving me a huge opportunity to connect with people who share my passions, which often fall outside the interests of family, neighbors, co-workers, fellow churchgoers--all those "real life" people who surround me. But in particular, discovering Tolkien through the movies and then the books has, if not really changed me, has influenced my thoughts on fiction and movies to a huge degree. I remember having the feeling, when I watched the films, of "This is the story I've been waiting all my life to enjoy", and that feeling, greatly enhanced by reading the books, has never left me, and has opened up an interest in fantasy that I never would have imagined having before. I'm still a little picky about fantasy--I don't care for the gritty, grimdark stuff with morally ambiguous characters that's so trendy right now, but neither do I like it too "fluffy", where it's all fairies and talking daisies. But heroic fantasy, with strong good vs evil themes, is something I now greatly enjoy reading.
Skipping Day 7 for the moment because I do have something to share that I made for
suzll, but she hasn't posted it yet on 8tracks.
Day 8
In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. Surf the comments and find people to give love to.
Erm. I guess I'll just say I'm glad I'm posting this one buried with a host of others, because I don't really feel asking for appreciation is something I should be doing. To be brutally honest, there's a large part of me that finds a complement you've had to ask for a little less valuable than one offered spontaneously. But I suppose that's really a dumb attitude because when I leave comments for everyone else's Day 8 posts, which I'll be doing now that I'm getting caught up on everything, what I say is no less meaningful than if I'd offered the same complement outside of a tell-me-you-love-me meme. So... this one's a learning curve for me? But it still leaves me squirming!
I think I'll put Days 9 & 10 in separate posts. I don't want any recs to go unnoticed, nor do I want my wish list buried. Because I do love tossing wish lists out there, especially when I have a birthday coming up (and unlike asking for complements, I have no problem asking, begging, and whining for fannish things). :D
