New show from Mike Rowe....

I know several folks on my flist are Mike Rowe fans like me... well, I just got a tweet from his website about a new show he's put together that will be on tonight on The Discovery Channel at 9 pm EST/8 pm CST.  I've not seen the video preview but the concept looks really good (and I'm not just saying it because I'm a former Mississippi River rat!).  Here's the skinny, a repost of the moderator's press release from the forum over there:

"Mike’s shooting After The Catch in New Orleans and it seems that the Captains are keeping him quite busy so he hasn’t had time to craft a smartly worded announcement about a new show he’s producing. I told him I’d attempt it if he was game. He was (in more ways than one ), so here goes - ModSammy's Attempt at a Press Release:

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT! MIKE ROWE IMPERSONATES EXECUTIVE PRODUCER! GETS MORE TRASH ON DISCOVERY!

Mike Rowe, Creator, Executive Producer and Host of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs, has done it again. What “it” means exactly, is unclear, but early reports suggest that Mike's fumbling attempts to executive produce another TV show may be working.

On Thursday, June 10 at 9pm EST (check your local listings), The Discovery Channel will air a one-hour pilot called River Warriors. The program follows the adventures of a guy from St. Louis named Chad who has been single-handedly cleaning up the Mississippi River for the last decade.

Rowe is also very enthused about the project. “I liked Chad Pregracke the first time I spoke to him,” said Rowe. “He’s a genuine guy doing an important job who doesn’t seem to care too much about being on television. That’s a very good sign that this could work.”

Indeed, Chad has shown little interest in fame or fortune. For the last 10 years, he and some other like-minded do-gooders have been cruising the Mississippi on a giant barge with a big crane which he uses to pull all sorts of random junk from our nation’s most important river. “Abandoned cars, bags of money, oil drums, firearms, dead bodies, Civil War cannons, artificial limbs – you name it,” says Chad. “The river is filled with stuff that shouldn’t be there and our job is to pull it out. Why Mike thinks this might be a TV show is beyond me, but hey, I’ll take whatever help I can get.

After Eddie Barbini, another executive producer of Dirty Jobs, told Mike about Chad's story and the difficulty of getting a show off the ground, Mike offered to help draw attention by posting a video of Chad doing what Chad does on his website, mikeroweWORKS.com ("Somebody's Gotta Do It"), and personally endorsing the project. "I had no idea if my endorsing Chad's efforts and posting his video would help, but figured that maybe it would force some network executive into recognizing that a story like Chad's should be told. I guess it worked." said Rowe. "Of course, all the cards and letters from mrW fans to networks didn't hurt. I've tried to get the Discovery to list all of the mrW members as executive producers on the show as well, but the executive in charge there mumbled something about space limitations."

Rowe is hopeful that lots of people will watch River Warriors, and his logic is hard to question. “Honestly,” says Rowe, “haven’t we seen enough of people on TV who don’t deserve to be there? Bad dancers, bad singers, ugly bachelors, and stupid game show contestants? Here’s a guy that’s actually doing something worthwhile – fishing our litter out of Mark Twain's river. S@*t, if America can watch a show about a fake celebrities getting “fired” by a fake business mogul, we damn well better watch a regular guy doing what the big shots at BP haven’t yet figured out.” Rowe is suspecting a huge audience this Thursday at 9pm only on The Discovery Channel. But just in case, he’s resorted to begging.

Please watch,” says Rowe. “You’ll feel guilty and foolish if you don’t.”

--end of fake press release --

OK, OK, so maybe I’m not so good at press releases but heck, all work and no play makes Sam a dull moderator and I just felt the need to have a bit of fun. And, well, Mike thought it was funny so that was good enough for me.

Be sure and let us know at mikeroweWORKS.com (right here in this very thread) what y’all think of the show, yeah? Let’s see if we can’t help this guy Chad get the well deserved attention he, well, deserves. "
