I went to see Hobbit3 this afternoon and came away mostly pleased with it. I say mostly because there were a few parts that had me rolling my eyes, but I enjoyed it as a film adaptation nonetheless. Spoilery stuff under the cut.

Impressions, in no particular order... )

Have you seen this?? Now I want a porcupine...

Edit: An OMG addition: this is the voice of the little dying hedgehog in "The Hobbit"! His name is Teddy.

Have you all seen this????

I haven't quite warmed up up to Lee Pace as Thranduil just yet (it's the eyebrows, quite frankly), but images like this are helping to blow the embers to life...

Another link to a video on PJ's Facebook page. This time, he's posted a video of Evangeline Lilly (sp?), Orlando Bloom and Lee Pace reacting as they watch a video of two fan's reacting as *they* watch the teaser trailer. I think it's on tORn as well, but I ran across it on FB this morning. Watch here.  It's incredible fun, and I just love the actors' reactions, especially Orlando's.

I must say, I've often imagined... very briefly... what any of the principals in the films, or JRR Tolkien himself, would look like reading my fics, and I usually immediately stop thinking about it because it's too painful to contemplate! So I confess that I watched this video with a little element of "cringe" and "oh my lord, I'd die!!". But how thrilling for those two fans! I love how open and friendly PJ is with the fans. Really makes for a "we're all in this adventure together" feeling that you just don't get very often.

Okay, y'all.... here's the teaser trailer for TH: Desolation of Smaug.  With Legolas! And Bard! And a glimpse of Beorn as a bear! and... Well, just go watch.

Did anyone happen to catch the recent articles... and there seemed a slew of them... quoting Viggo as saying he'd still like to play Aragorn in a bridge movie and hopes it might happen?  Of course, that set off renewed blogospheric speculation that somehow in the additional shooting they might include his back story.

I can't see it happening in "The Desolation of Smaug", and personally, I doubt it will happen even if PJ decides to add some sort of epilogue bridge at the end of the 3rd movie (which would be the most likely place for any sort of cameo). But I am entertained by picturing Viggo all but stalking PJ, calling every hour of the day and night, asking if he's figured out a way to include him. *g* (I mean, obviously the guy still loves Middle-earth; he went to see TH on the opening weekend just like the rest of us geeks. *g*)

Maybe if I get down on one knee and ask nicely, with puppy dog eyes....

Gandalf is answering questions on twitter.  You can follow along live or simply read the tweets later at @TheHobbitMovie.  (And no, this doesn't count as a review, so my self-imposed embargo on reading reviews doesn't apply! *g*)

I'm getting close to being finished with Christmas shopping! The weather is really nice this week so I want to get out and get it all done, including stocking stuffers, this week, since next week they're whispering Dire Predictions Of Snow (which probably means there'll be flurries).  But in case the Dire Predictions prove accurate, far better to be able to stay home and wrap gifts instead of slogging around buying them.  Of course, I'll still be slogging around because I have a dental appointment and my daughter needs a haircut and who knows what my mom may need that week, but at least I won't be shopping.

I had decided I wasn't going to read any reviews of The Hobbit before I went to see it, but I did read Larry Curtis' revew on TORn (I think he calls himself MrCere there, but on twitter he's Larry Curtis), which was favorable and had some interesting thoughts on the 48 FPS frame rate issue. It's available in both versions here in my city, but I will probably see it in good ol' fashioned non-3D/non 48FPS, at least for the first viewing, because to me, the important part is the story, not the technology.  And honestly, I hate 3D. I wear glasses, bifocals no less, and even before I had to wear bifocals, I found it hard to wear 3D glasses over them properly and would end up vaguely headache-y from eye strain after even a short time.  So call me a luddite, but sometimes advances in technology aren't really advances, or if they are, they still leave me behind. I'm just glad the option is there to see it the "old" way.

What about you? Are you avoiding reviews or embracing them, and will you see it in 3D if it's available in your theater?

PJ says there will be a 3rd Hobbit film... although I wonder how much will be "The Hobbit" vs the Appendices.  And of course, that begs the question from us Aragorn fans:

WILL ARAGORN BE IN IT?????

Twitter has exploded with hobbity goodness.... "The Hobbit" trailer is online and oh man, is it awesome!

I am feeling so many things right now that I can't really put anything into words... mostly the music is blowing me away.  Wow... Howard Shore is a genius.  Just an absolutely brilliant genius.

Is it December 2012 yet??

Posted by PJ and tweeted by Sir Ian, with the comment, "THE HOBBIT is being filmed in 3D. Even wizards have to wear the glasses."
