cairistiona: (Happy Aragorn)
Whoever comments to the effect on this post will be given an artist and then has to post a piece or pieces by that artist, along with this text.

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] samtyr and [livejournal.com profile] just_ann_now !  Interestingly, they both gave me American Impressionist artists from the late 19th/early 20th centuries.

Samtyr gave me Mary Cassat and I chose Louise Nursing Her Child (so hard to choose... her works celebrate the mother/child bond so beautifully, but this one always is a standout for me):

I love the expression on the baby's face.

And just_ann_now gave me Childe Hassam, and I chose Summer Evening:

It's so peaceful, and summer evenings are such a beautiful time of day. (As with Cassatt, it was soooo hard to narrow it down... I do love his rainy day landscapes so much. But this one's thoughtfulness and rural setting speaks to me more personally.)

curiouswombat gave me Charles Warren Eaton!

He was a tonalist artist. Tonalism emerged on the heels of the Hudson River School style and was darker and murkier. I like both types, though I lean more toward Hudson than Tonalism. Still, there are some really evocative, wonderfully moody paintings by Eaton, including this one, Silence of the Night:

Let me know if you want me to give you an artist!
